Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) aims to help the client become aware of negative cognitive distortions, which are causing psychological distress. CBT also works with behavioral patterns that are reinforcing the distortions. The goal of CBT is correct the negative thinking and the behaviors that are reinforcing them. The objective is not to correct every distortion in a client’s entire outlook — after all, virtually everyone distorts reality in many ways — just those that may be at the root of distress.
