EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a late-stage trauma resolution method. EMDR assists in processing traumatic memories and information, which permits a more comfortable perspective of the trauma. According to Francine Shapiro, EMDR is a complex, highly specialized therapy used to overcome the effects of traumatic or upsetting experiences.
Because impressions of trauma get stored in the nervous system through defense mechanisms, it is essential to adjust the neural network to function more healthily, enabling us not to remain stuck re-experiencing the negative memories.
According to Bessel van der Kolk and others, EMDR works because the alternating bilateral stimulation distracts the client from the traumatic memories and allows the brain to be changed. You can't have new behavior if you are stuck in old memories. Only changing the outcome of the past can result in new behavior in the future.
